Appliqued Hippo Shirt

We're just hippo crazy around here! I made our little guy a hippo shirt. I just can't get good, clear pictures of him since he's always moving. It also doesn't help that there is no sunlight and hasn't been for 5 days now!

But you can at least see the hippo applique even if you can't see my little guy.

Appliqued Burp Cloths

I have a friend who just had a little boy and so I wanted to make her a gift. My husband & I love the book Hippos Go Berserk,
so I'm going to buy that book for her. I also made two burp cloths embellished with appliqued hippos!
I also made some elephant burp cloths to try and build back up my stock of boyish baby gifts to give! I just really love making things for babies and kids!

Busy Bee

I have been extremely busy lately. I did have a post scheduled for today, but my pictures just aren't very good for it so I decided to preempt it to another day. I am working on discovering how my digital camera can take good pictures despite its lack of a flash (which I destroyed while I was at the beach this summer.)
I haven't even had time to get my hair cut. That's how busy I've been. Taking care of a toddler & husband, living between two homes, and renovating two bathrooms has taken just about every minute of my day. Sewing has really been my solace so I've managed to keep up with the blog! So keep tuning in.

I'll have something new tomorrow.

I've got a couple great boyish/manly ideas in the works!

(that's me)that was a few years ago. but i still look pretty much the same. i made the necklace.

Appliqued Toddler Skirt

Here's another idea for a toddler skirt. (I have no idea why I am so into skirts lately...it's October and way past skirt season here in my homeland of PA or in my former land of OH. I guess I love the trend of leggings with skirts. Little girls pull that off so much better than us 20-somethings!) Anyway.

I made this skirt the same way I made the other toddler skirt and needed to cover a flaw in the striped t-shirt. So I chose to use flowers.

First, I started with a paper pattern. I pinned this directly to the jersey fabric I used for the waistband of the skirt.
Next, after cutting the flower out, I pinned it to the skirt. Then I just sewed around the flower with a running stitch.
I added some buttons. The end! I love it.

Garage Sale Find

I thought our little guy needed a table where he could color. Instead, we found a desk. It was only $15 at a garage sale we happened across this past Saturday and I was super excited.
I cleaned it up for him and put his paper and crayons on it. When he saw it, he threw the paper all over the floor and dumped out the crayon box on the floor.
He didn't seem to have the same idea I did about him sitting at the desk:
