Textured Scrappy Baby Blanket with Ribbons

I wanted to make a blanket for our baby's room that matches the crib skirt I made a few months ago.

I fell in love with this adorable zoo print fabric after I found a remnant of it and then later went back and bought 1/8 of a yard at full price...just because I HAD to have it for reference!
I finally decided to use the 1/8 yard to make something for the baby...but I wasn't sure what. So I put a bunch of scraps that match the fabric into this blanket. I also used some ribbon to make it interesting and add more texture.
One of my scraps is from the pillowcases I used to make the crib skirt...another scrap is from a towel I've been using for various projects (see here, here, here, and here)...the large navy blue scrap is from the yoga skirt I made last summer...and the minky blue fabric is from the diaper bag changing mat I made.

I really like how it turned out. I have a tiny bit of the zoo fabric left and am trying to think of the perfect scrappy project to use it for!

  1. i love this fabric print, too, and i can't help but go back and forth on buying some yardage. i'm not super great like you at sewing at this point, but some day i'd like to be- and i'm sure that i'll still be dreaming of this fabric (but my boys will most likely be too old for it!).

    congrats on your latest addition!
