Summer Bucket Playtime Hat

bucket hats for boys (4)

Hats are great to make for boys.

bucket hat, boy twill version. DIY. (5)

You might remember these hats I made a few months ago. My older guy’s hat didn’t fit very well. (Too big.) So I ran across this other bucket hat pattern for kids and decided to give it a go.

I used some twill fabric I had received for free. I added extra top stitching at all the seams.
(I didn’t use a double needle. Just stitched two seams.) You can read more about problems I've had with the double needle.

I didn’t use any interfacing. Just the twill. It wrinkles a bit for my taste, but at least it fits! The other hat I had made was too deep.

I definitely recommend this pattern I used. I made the XL size for my 3-year-old, which turned out a little bigger than I had thought.
Better too big than too small, right?

  2. This is great :) I've only ever tried infant hats. I was just in the market for a hat, and this would have been perfect! (I'm making my son's Halloween costume right now, and he's going to be the Man in the Yellow hat!)

    Thanks for sharing!
