Sewing Books I'd Like to Own

I don't own any sewing books. But I've been working hard this week on sewing a few things for my oldest son and I'm realizing it might be time to break down and buy some patterns. Books seem like a great way to get patterns. Here are a few I think might be a worthwhile investment.
---

I think this might be a 'must-have' for me. It was recommended in a comment I received and I would use it. A lot:

I want this one just for the envelope tee pattern:

I love this gal's blog, so I know I'd love her book:

This book has a page on feet, and since I didn't even recognize my zipper foot, I'd probably do well with a book like this. It also looks like grown-up dresses with cute ruffles and necklines:

I would like to start sewing clothing for myself. I have mainly stuck with kids' clothes because they don't need zippers, but I think it might be time to branch out a bit. This book received high reviews and is said to contain great patterns:

So...do any of you own any of these books? Were they worth the money? Any other recommendations for me?

  1. I just ordered my first Ottobre magazine! I ordered the Summer/2012 edition because it has some totally cool boy shorts, and t-shirts! If it is as awesome as I've heard, I'll look at an actual subscription! I'd recommend looking at the books in person, as some I thought I'd love weren't as cool when I flipped through them...

    1. Thanks for the idea! I'll have to look into purchasing that. I didn't know it existed. And yes, you're right, I should probably go check it out @ Barnes & Noble before just ordering the book on Amazon.

  2. That sewing for boys one looks good! Sometimes it feels like there's such a lack of fun boy stuff to sew :-) Thanks for sharing at The Fun In Functional!

  3. I check books from the library before I buy them. That way I know what's in them and it's not a gamble. I don't sew clothes for myself, but the book I AM CUTE DRESSES had a plethora of nice adult dresses that did not seem too overwhelmingly difficult.

    1. I just looked @ that one on Amazon, thanks for the suggestion! I will try and get some from the library first. Our libraries here don't seem to have new sewing/craft books, but sometimes they can get them from another library if they are more than 1 year old.

Spelling or grammar will not be criticized, so there's no reason not to leave me a comment!
